Super Junior’s Choi Siwon and Ivy Chen respond to online furore
Netizens criticised the on-screen couple for showing their middle finger in an episode of Taiwanese idol drama ‘Skip.Beat!’
Viewers were shocked and fans were bewildered when they caught the seventh episode of Taiwanese idol drama Skip.Beat! The drama depicts Gong Xi's (Ivy Chen) road to stardom, after her ex-boyfriend Bu Po Shang (Super Junior's Lee Donghae) ditched and provoked her to enter showbiz. Gong Xi later meets superstar Duan He Lian (Super Junior's Choi Siwon), whom she eventually falls in love with.
In the episode which aired two weeks ago, both Siwon and Ivy's characters were shown pointing their middle fingers in two separate scenes. While the episode achieved high ratings for the drama, netizens criticised the action as a bad example to children. Fans were also puzzled that Super Junior's management agency SM Entertainment allowed their artistes to put on such an act on television. The production company had replied that the Koreans approved the script and did not think that it was inappropriate.
