[24-03-11] Siwon and Donghae to begin filming for their Taiwanese Drama

After making an announcement almost two years ago, Taiwanese cable station ‘Gala Television‘ (GTV) has confirmed that filming for their new drama, “Glamorous Challenge“, will commence on March 31st! The Taiwanese drama attracted international ELF attention after it was revealed that Super Junior members Donghae and Choi Si Won were casted for it.

Since it’s been put on the backburner for two years, most of the original cast and director have left the production. But thankfully, Si Won and Donghae are still in it and they will be acting alongside Taiwanese actresses, Ivy Chen Yi Han (陳意涵) and Bianca Bai Xin Hui (白歆惠).

Niu Cheng Ze (鈕承澤) who was to have directed the drama, now becomes the producer while Feng Jia Rui (馮家瑞) will take over the director’s seat.

Despite their top A-list billing, both of them have asked to be treated like everyone else. Though they’ll be staying in Taiwan for four months, they haven’t asked for any special requests, like staying in hotels and extra security.

“Glamorous Challenge” is a live-action adaptation of a Japanese manga called “Skip Beat“, and it’s about a girl who gets betrayed by her long-time boyfriend. In an attempt to get revenge, she debuts as a celebrity; the storyline unfolds with various romantic adventures and hijinks.

No word yet on when the drama will be aired.

Super Junior fans scream! GTV announced yesterday that Extravagant Challenge will officially begin its filming on 31 March, and that Siwon and Donghae will be staying in Taiwan for 4 months. Although the both of them are Asia’s popular stars, they were very receptive of the accommodation and living arrangements made for them. The only request that they have made is that their privacy at the accommodation must be guaranteed. It does not matter if it is not a hotel, but the best option will be a place where the elevator requires a resident pass to access.

Resuming work after the filming had stopped for 2 years, the male, female casts and even the director for Extravagant Challenge have all changed. Fortunately, Siwon and Donghae‘s combination with Chen Yi Han, Bai Xin Hui remains fresh and glamorous. Originally, Niu Cheng Ze, who was supposed to direct the drama has now been promoted to the producer, while Feng Jia Rui will take over as the new director.

On the 31st, when the filming officially began, aside from Siwon and Donghae, Chen Yi Han and Bai Xin Hui, everyone made an appearance. The original writer from Japan and representatives from the publishing house were unable to attend as they were still dealing with the aftermath of Japan’s earthquake. They will be represented by the supervising representative Miyaki Hisako.

After the Hallyu wave began to spread across Asia, Siwon and Donghae are considered as the Korean stars with the highest popularity who came to film in Taiwan in recent years. Both of them have strict requirements towards their work, but are amiable when it comes to living arrangements. They did not request to stay in a 5-star hotel, nor did they request for bodyguards. GTV’s deputy Lai Cong Bi expressed that: “Some of the Taiwanese artists are less flexible compared to Korean artists, but their appeal in the overseas market is less than that of the Korean artists. If this continues, it will be difficult for them to to compete in the market.”

The drama ‘Extravagant Challenge’ will be using the entertainment industry as a setting, and the main leads of this drama are all celebrities. Bai Xin Hui will be acting as Chen Yi Han’s close friend and rival in the drama. The character has a cold appearance but a warm personality, someone who possess great acting skills but is emotionless. It is a character that she has not attempted before, causing her to really look forward to it.

Lee Donghae and Choi Siwon, members of popular Korean idol group Super Junior, have been cast in Taiwanese cable network Gala Television (GTV)'s new drama-comedy, "Glamorous Challenge," with filming set to commence at the end of the month.
"Glamorous Challenge," also known as "Extravagant Challenge," is a Taiwanese adaptation of "Skip Beat," a Japanese manga about a girl named Kyoko (to be played by Taiwanese actress Ivy Chen Yi Han) who is betrayed by her long-time boyfriend Ren (played by Siwon), and, as revenge, undergoes a makeover and image transformation, debuting as a top celebrity; Donghae plays Sho, a popular singer who is smitten by Kyoko. "Glamorous Challenge" has been on GTV's radar for about two years, undergoing much revision before arriving at its current incarnation.
Both Siwon, who recently starred in action-drama "Athena," and Donghae, who had his own share of television stardom in the recently concluded "It's Okay Daddy's Daughter," will be billeted in Taiwan for four months while the series shoots. Both singer-actors have apparently not requested any special treatment, and while there is no definite air date for "Glamorous Challenge," we can expect Taiwanese, Korean, and other Asian ELFs to clamor strongly for the quick airing of this latest Super Junior-related outing.
